As you read the historical information presented in this section please take into consideration the fact that it was compiled based on a very limited amount of unbiased historical data. While I made efforts to outline information as objectively as possible, I realize that the text may appear troublesome and arbitrary to some who hold strong opinions on the historical development of Belarus, and the role played in it by such entities as Lithuania, Poland, and Russia. As long as these roles along with their corresponding benefits and/or disadvantages are debated and are a subject of controversy, as they are to the present day, a purely unbiased presentation is hardly possible. Although I attempted to stay away from labeling one nation or other as invaders or saviors, as was the case in the historical accounts available to me at the moment of compiling this brief history of Gomel, I realize that some of the language may still seem inappropriate or questionable to some readers. I would like to remind such individuals that the present website has no claims to being the official, authoritative and authentic source of Gomel-related information. Moreover, it remains a personal website and any views and opinions expressed herein are the views and opinions of the site's creator. While I am open to constructive criticism and reasonable suggestions, I will not respond to complaints and accusations generated purely by opposing political and nationalistic inclinations. Enjoy the reading and have a pleasant time on this site. For those interested, I advise considering other resources on the history of Belarus.
